Mick Pestle
A free-scoring forward with the St Albans-based youth team Carlton, Mick made one appearance for the City First team; a 5-0 win over Letchworth Town in the semi final of the Herts Charity Cup on 6th May 1963. He was in good company that day as also in the City side were crowd favourites Mick Rose, Phil Wood and Herbie Smith. He won a multitude of medals during his highly successful time with Carlton and, with Joe Kinnear playing behind him, scored 60 times during 1962-63. He also went on to play for the Hertfordshire county youth side and had a spell in the youth team at Luton Town. Along with his brother Graham, and Kinnear and England Schoolboys goalkeeper Alan Tatham, Mick played for the City Reserves and after leaving Clarence Park he signed for Hatfield Town. In later years he became an Arsenal season ticket holder.
