Match report
St Albans City are doing very well of late and are making good headway in the Spartan and County Leagues. Their performance on Saturday was decidedly encouraging when they drew with Luton Clarence on the Clarence Park.
From start to finish a good game was seen and the spectators, of whom there were about five hundred, were very pleased with their team.
The City played good dashing football, but lacked the combination of the Clarence, who all played a fine game. They knew where the ball was going and, consequently, made the most of their opportunities. All the Luton players were rendered conspicuous by their long pot shots for goal. When they got the ball they got away quickly and this is where the homesters were inferior. The Citizens do not swing the leather about enough, for if they did this they would find this play would mislead the opposing backs.
For the Clarence the goalie made some fine saves and the backs were very good and safe. The Luton players had some very pretty touches and were never at a loss to get out of a tight corner.
For the City Thomas and Patrick played a fine game and Kerrison got in some grand saves. Geo.Price and Chapman played a good game among the halves and Davis was fairly good on the defensive, but kicked wildly and did not get rid quick enough. All the forwards played well, Hosier and Butcher playing a grand game together. Noel, Walker and Atkins were prominent although T.Noel does better with ground shots rather than overhead drives.
The game was in the able charge of Mr. C.H.Baylis.
