Match report

Jimmy Brandham
The somewhat prejudiced Harpenden spectators, reinforced by some hundreds of enthusiasts from St Albans, witnessed their favourite reds go down on Saturday before St Albans City in the fastest and most keenly competitive game the latter have participated in this season.
The bustling Harpers put up such a fight against their more skilful opponents that the result was, until the last eighteen minutes, always in doubt and if their forwards had been of the same class as the defence, they would have been easily capable of dividing the points.
Harpenden are a strong team this season; indeed, they had been beaten only once previous to Saturday, but the somewhat bumpy ground is always in their favour. The Saints, after playing every match for two months on the first-rate pitch at Clarence Park, were handicapped by that fact.

Playing on the right wing for Harpenden Town was Jimmy Brandham (pictured right) who was later to join City in season 1911/12. After making his debut on 9th September 1911 he went on to make 92 appearances as well as winning 12 Hertfordshire County caps.
A blacksmith by trade, Jimmy made several appearances for Luton Town’s reserve team during the Great War.
