Match report
A very excellent and closely-contested game resulted in the meeting of the Coldstream Guards with St Albans City on Saturday when the Albanians very undeservedly lost by one goal to nil.
The homesters all seemed to have regained their old form and confidence and the forward line was made complete by the addition of W.Fincke, late of Hatfield, as centre-forward. Hughes was again his old self at inside-right and partnered Hosier in almost perfect style. Grimsdell and Davis were even more safe and sure than usual and some of the free kicks taken by the former were fine, terrific shots and none but a first-class goalie would have been able to deal with them. But a first-class goalie the Guards had in no less a person than Leese, the English international, and he was successful in bringing off some really magnificent saves.
Another outstanding feature in the Coldstreams’ team was the outside-right Leach, the right-winger from London, who on Saturday gave Grimsdell a busy time. The goal that was scored by Higgens was well deserved, although a victory was not a true representation of the game.
