“FINE PERFORMANCE BY THE SAINTS”

One of the most important items of St Albans City’s Spartan League programme took place at Clarence Park on Saturday. Tufnell Park, the present leaders, being the visitors. They found the Saints in brilliant form.
In beautiful weather the home team delighted a crowd of about nine hundred by a clever, thrustful display and, in the end, Tufnell Park, who quite failed to put up the fight that was expected of them, were a well beaten team. From the team that defeated the Newportonians the City substituted Seabrook, Wiggs and Meagher for Adams, A.Grimsdell and Price.
In every department the City team excelled. Smith was almost a spectator. He owed his “lack of work” to the efforts of Patrick and Grimsdell, who supplemented sure kicking with tackling of first rate order. The great outstanding feature of the game was the great display by Wiggs(right), the young centre-half, whose agility and adroit tackling make him worthy of a regular place in the team.
