Match report
Although in the end they were able to claim the couple at stake, the City Club on Saturday came much nearer losing one, or even two, of those points which are so necessary if they are to win the championship of the Spartan League than they usually do.
The Newportonians are one of the lowliest teams in the League but the absence of no fewer than five of the City’s first choices levelled matters up and the City were if anything their superiors during a lifeless first half. It was not until about half-an-hour from time that the City players recognised that they must go “all out” to win and then they roused themselves and went for the points in such a fashion as to cause considerable excitement and enthusiasm among the spectators, of whom there were about an average number present.
One of the successes of the City team was Trulock, who gave an excellent display upon his first appearance with senior eleven this season.
