Match report
The City failing to play up to even moderate form, disappointment was the feeling that prevailed at Clarence Park on Saturday. For no apparent reason, except perhaps that Chesham Generals are not such a draw as some teams which visit St Albans, there was not so large a crowd as usual around the ropes. Those who stayed away, however, did not miss a great deal, for the Saints quite failed to reproduce their brilliant form against the 2nd Coldstreams a week previously and their play was as mediocre and “scrappy” as it has been on any occasion this season. The City eleven were not entirely to blame for the state of affairs, for on a light ground and with a strong wind blowing, they found the ball extremely difficult to control, while the tactics of some of the visiting players was another factor which helped to put them off their game. The only feature about which to enthuse with regard to the home team was the splendid display given by Meagher at left-half and, to a lesser extent, the work of Brandham and Palmer.
