Match report

St Albans City were successful in their F.A.Cup Tie at Apsley on Saturday. A large number of supporters accompanied the City team, in brakes, on bicycles and even on foot and vied with the local supporters in giving encouragement to the respective sides.
The game was fast and exciting, but produced very little good football. The rough surface of the ground made it difficult to properly judge the direction of the ball, but the City adapted themselves creditably to the circumstances and gave a good display.
Owing to an injury S.Hatton was unable to be included in the St Albans team and was supplanted by T.Hearn who, with E.Grimsdell, made a decidedly strong defence.
The spectators, who numbered about 800, reached a high state of excitement during the game and on one occasion the match was stopped, on account of a fight behind the visitor’s goal.
