Match report

Arthur Wiggs
As the result of the late start in this match(1), which was played on the Clarence Park ground on Saturday, the game ended in semi-darkness and it was a general relief when the final whistle was blown. A.Wiggs(2), who last week played at outside-left, demonstrated his versatility my making a good show at right back, in place of Hatton(injured).
Palmer met with a serious motor mishap just before 1 o’clock on Saturday. The car in which he was travelling completely overturned, pinning his driver underneath, but Palmer escaped this fate by jumping.
He received nasty cuts on the head, hands and legs, but after receiving 1st aid was able to journey to St Albans to witness the match. Trulock thus came in at right half and played a very good game.
In the Polytechnic attack Cerutti figured at inside-left and he and P.Wash were by far the two most dangerous forwards. In the second half the visitors’ secretary-captain obtained a very fine goal and it was a fitting result to his consistent work throughout. P.Wash, the outside-right, made some tricky runs in the first half but fell off rather after the resumption. H.Watts was, as usual, quite safe in goal, though his efforts were not adequately backed up by the rest of the defence.
Of the City forward line the right was more prominent than the left. Hosier played an excellent game, getting in innumerable centres, with a cross shot interspersed now and again. Brandham played the best game of the half-backs, his tackling being effective.
