Match report
St Albans City finished their Spartan League programme for the 1913-14 season with a decisive victory, the second in succession over the 2nd Coldstream Guards. The game began rather later than usual owing to the A.F.A.Senior Cup final played just before,(1) but when the Guards kicked off there was a large crowd of spectators around the ropes.
The Guards’ team had been considerably rearranged compared with the team which did duty on Easter Monday but, all the same, the City held the upper hand all through. The play on both sides gave evidence of the nearness of the end of the season, the Guards being particularly spiritless at times.
