Match report
It's a 1.00 pm. kick-off here at Clarence Park as England play at 3.00 today...well.. they play at Old Trafford rather than The Park but what I meant was we can watch it on T.V. You know what I mean.
Today, we entertain Kingstonian, F.A.Cup giant killers of recent seasons, but relegated from the Conference last year and they are struggling in the Ryman this term in 14th place. City, in 9th spot have not won in their last 6 outings, with 2 league points out of 15 and defeat in the F.A.Cup during this spell. It needs to be better today.
For today, The Dynamic Duo selected Wilmot in goal; 4 at the back: Honeyball, Brown,(C), Moran, and Rattle, 3 in front of them (it's a christmas tree): Wraight, Evans and Hyatt, 2 in front of them: Fenton and Smith; and up front: Martin. On the bench were Nabil, Cook and Ferguson. In the stand were the injured Campbell, Bignal and Ansell. Blaney and Metcalf are no longer with the club.
Well we looked solid at the back but neither side was able to take control of the midfield so it was a bit patchy. The visitor's keeper suffered a back injury early on and played the rest of the game in great pain. After 20 minutes or so, Martin headed home a Smith corner. 1-0. 10 minutes later, there was a clash of heads in the home box between Honeyball and Ball, the
winger, and to the surprise of everyone in the ground, a penalty was awarded, duly converted. 1-1. H.T.
The second half started the way the first ended. 10 minutes into the half, K's took the lead when Wilmot collected a corner, but spilled the ball (he claimed he was fouled) and their striker took the gift. 1-2. Nabil came on for Fenton and we switched to 4-4-2. Nabil brings pace and committment to the
final third of the field which does seem to be infectious and, of course, he plays up front with Martin. He is the fan's favourite at the moment. City were the livelier now and the equaliser came form a corner, hit long, headed back by Nabil and headed home by Brown. 2-2. Nabil injured his back and was
replaced by Cook. City were the stronger side for the final 20 minutes of the game, testing the visitors keeper with half-a-dozen long shots which required painful full-length saves. What we didn't do was put pressure on him with crosses. F.T. 2-2.
The official attendance was 307, with 100 or so making the trip from Surrey.
The Safeway MotM was Martin, although for me, it was Nabil or the visitor's keeper.
This was a strange game. Curiously lack-lustre. It came to life when Nabil came on, sadly only for 10 minutes or so. Kingstonian have major financial problems off the pitch as they went into 'Voluntary Administration' on Friday. Only 4 or 5 of today's side were first choice last week. They will be
pleased with a point. The Saint's Managers, with 3 points from the last 18 will not want to hear the dreaded vote of confidence from The Board. At least they have seen the light and played 4 at the back today.

Entertainment 7/10. Atmosphere 6/10. Technical Merit 6/10. Referee 5/10.

Next up. A lean spell. No game next Saturday as it's the F.A.Cup 3rd qualifying round, and then on Saturday, October 20th, we are away at Heybridge Swifts, before we play at home on Saturday, October 27th vs. Harrow Borough. Extra training for The Lads, but for me, an unexpected mid-season
break in Barbados once Webbo's cheque arrives.
