  • 1908-09: Large crowds greet the new Saints

    Local players and donations from local clubs set City on their way.

  • 1909-10: City celebrate first championship and cup success

    Willy Hughes becomes a record setting Saint. George Webb is the first sinner.

  • 1910-11: Grimsdell brothers join the Saints

    Future England captain Arthur Grimsdell signs for St Albans City along with his brother Ernest

  • 1911-12: Spartan League Champions

    George Edmonds, a 1921 FA Cup finalist with Wolverhampton Wanderers, is City's top goalscorer.

  • 1912-13: Record haul in Duck shoot

    Dicky Hammond bags six as Aylesbury United are routed by a club record 14-0 at Clarence Park.

  • 1913-14: Ernest Grimsdell capped by England

    Ernest Grimsdell plays alongside former Saint Ivan Sharpe for the England Amateur international XI.

  • 1919-20: City resume as war ends

    City regroup for first season after the war and are denied access to Clarence Park as they prepare for a final season in the Spartan League

  • 1920-21: Minter’s goals carry City to Athenian title

    Wifred Minter joins as St Albans City win Athenian League at first attempt.

  • 1921-22: Clarence Park expands as City retain Athenian title

    Saints glory years continue as Figg and Minter attract interest from Watford and Aston Villa

  • 1922-23: Minter’s historic match – League runners up then City quit

    The famous defeat to Dulwich Hamlet as City quit Athenian League

  • 1923-24: Isthmian League Champions

    Saints win league at first attempt.
