The play of Patrick for City was really brilliant, while Webb was in his customary good form, so that behind such a pair Smith, in goal, found very little to do. Price and J.Richardson were both at their best but Eddie Anderson, being slightly off-colour, paid too much attention to defence. Of the forwards Newman was about the best, although Webb Richardson, Hughes and Knott were continually doing clever things, but there were not enough of Walker’s irresistible rushes. The best man in the East Ham team was Burges, at centre-half, who paid equal attention to attack and defence and although his face was injured in the first half through coming into violent contact with another player. He played a great game throughout.
