Although the play in the County League fixture between St Albans City and Apsley was, on the whole, dull and uninteresting, it had a redeeming feature in the fine football shown by certain of the players, among the chief of whom can be placed Hitchcock and G.King, the right-back and left-half respectively of the Apsley team, both of whom were up to county form, showing up favourably in comparison with his vis-à-vis, Webb, the choice of the Southern Counties(1).
King, while being the best half on the field for a good portion of the game was rather overshadowed afterwards by Knott of the City, upon the latter going to centre-half. Knott’s display at centre-half was something in the nature of an eye opener for the Saints and emphasized the fact that he is comparatively wasted as a forward.
