St Albans City journeyed to Hitchin for their second meeting with the Town in the Spartan League competition and captured two more points at the North Herts team’s expense. Hitchin always play a surprisingly good game on their own pitch; indeed, they are a different team away from it and on Saturday they turned out imbued with a determination to avenge their 3-nil beating at Clarence Park and to provide the City with their first Spartan League defeat. This they did not succeed in doing. St Albans City are a team which require some beating and, superior in all departments, they won on Saturday on their merits by three clear goals. The game was played in perfect weather and with the ground in perfect condition and was all the keener owing to the fact that to lose would mean either eleven’s first defeat for months. A feature of the game was the clever display of the St Albans forwards, who were all in fine form, and that of Patrick at back.
