Match report
A crowd approaching 2,000 in number congregated at Clarence Park on Saturday to witness the meeting of St Albans City and Barnet Alston in the English Cup. Between these teams, it is generally admitted, lies the distinction of being the strongest amateur combination in Hertfordshire and a keen game was confidently expected.
With the ground in good condition and the weather holding fine, those expectations were amply justified and, despite the fact that Cavanna was in no condition for football, the Saints did well indeed. The clubs were represented by the chosen elevens, both of which were stronger that on the memorable encounter on the corresponding Saturday last year.
Webb Richardson, of St Albans, who on that occasion was assisting the City, was on Saturday playing for Barnet, a notable absentee from whose ranks was Alfred Seabrook.
