Match report

Ivan Gordon Sharpe
At Hemel Hempstead on Saturday St Albans City had to admit defeat at the hands of the locals in the County League tourney, by a goal to nil.
St Albans won the toss and the game opened in promising style, each side importing great vigour.
Hemel Hempstead were the first to press, tricky work by the forwards having excellent effect. Markham, the home right half, gave McIntyre a number of difficult drop shots to deal with and from one, about a quarter of an hour from the start, the only goal of the match was scored. The shot from Markham went right in the goal mouth and from the rebound, from McIntyre, H.W.Englefield(the county cricketer), secured and sent in the net.
There were appeals for off-side, which certainly seemed to have some ground, but the point was allowed. Hosier was in fine form and made many fine runs and centres, but often his efforts were useless, owing to the lack of support from the other forwards. From one of his centres Morrison got possession and got a nice shot in, but without effect.
The game became very poor towards the interval, but pulled round somewhat on the re-start, though only to drop again shortly. The homesters made several breaks and gave Bourdon and Patrick plenty to do. The home halves did fine and showed up much better than the City mid-line.
The game was not over-interesting and the winners were slightly superior.
