Match report

A collection was taken for injured captain Tom Noel.
Following upon their sensational victory over Harpenden on the previous Saturday, St Albans City accomplished yet another good performance on Saturday by beating Hemel Hempstead by the three goals scored in the match. The Citizens looked forward in anticipation to this match because it was at Hemel Hempstead that they lost two points in the County League at the very commencement of the season.
The climate was not such as would attract a large audience at a footer match but for all that a good “gate” was taken at Clarence Park. A strong wind was blowing and the snow was descending heavily. The ground was in a treacherous state and altogether the conditions under which the match was played were far from ideal.
By permission of the F.A. a collection was made on the ground for Tom Noel, the injured captain, and to all appearances the spectators responded handsomely(1).
The teams played fairly well although, of course, the homesters were all over the visitors. Mew was playing for the City and though he was rather slow on the ball, yet he has some pretty touches. Davis, Price and Chapman were prominent in the half-back line, whilst the forwards were fairly good. The backs were safe and when Kerrison was called upon he disposed of any shots with ease.
The Hemel Hempstead team played fairly well, although the forwards were weak. The backs and the goalie were safe on the whole.
