G.F. Meagher
|
What would probably have proved a very interesting encounter from the second meeting of the teams this season, was spoiled to a very great extent by the riotous elements. A fierce east wind, bringing with it at times storms of snow and sleet, blew from goal to goal and made good football out of the question. It would be futile to criticise the work of the players under such conditions. The City had entirely the best of the game and in better weather would probably have run up a big score. The play of the City backs was a feature of the game. In the first half E.F.Grimsdell volleyed the ball magnificently against the wind and afterwards the tackling and kicking of Patrick were excellent. Meagher(right), who appeared in place of Squires, played well while Cook also did well. For all he had to do Smith might just as well have been off the field in the second half.
