After Saturday’s performance at Chesham – a creditable one in every way – it may be put down as highly probable that St Albans City this season will once again be in the running for the championship of the Spartan League, with an eleven as good as any the Club has had. To win their first Spartan match away from home by three goals was as much as the most optimistic supporter could have expected and, although the substitutes were excellent, it must be remembered that the field was taken with such players as Smith, Leslie Hosier and Walker again absent. The Saints fine win at Chesham should inspire the team with confidence and, we hope, be the forerunner of an excellent campaign. There was a good crowd in attendance and a very pleasant game was only marred by a somewhat serious accident to one of the Chesham players(1) Reprinted from “The Herts Advertiser & St Albans Times” – 16th September 1911.
