These teams met on Tufnell Park’s ground at Fallow Corner, Finchley on Saturday, when St Albans City scored a runaway and meritorious victory on a very poor pitch. A high wind was blowing straight down the ground and there were very few spectators, excepting a small “following” from St Albans, a Cup-tie taking place on the adjoining pitch being the greater attraction.
The City players have shown great adaptability this season : indeed they have given better displays in away games than in many of their home matches, for the probable reason that they know they must exert themselves a trifle more on those occasions to win.
Man for man, the City have never had a faster line of forwards than that which represented them in this match and they all played well, Summers(right) making a very successful if belated debut. In addition to scoring a neat goal, the flyer from the Reserves proved that he is well worthy of a regular position in the first eleven. He and the bustling Starr, like Edmonds in the centre and Hosier and Hedderwick on the right, were always dangerous when they got on the move.
The City were again without Hatton, in addition to Walker, but were otherwise at full strength, while Tufnell Park played their usual Spartan League team.
