The visit of East Ham to Clarence Park on Saturday, which promised to produce a very even game, was keenly anticipated by St Albans football enthusiasts and their expectations were, in the main, justified, for although the City monopolised the scoring and won by the emphatic margin of four clear goal, the Hammers put up a very strong fight and never lost heart.
In mild weather on a pitch which had three weeks in which to recuperate and before a crowd of about a thousand the game which took place was an excellent one and not so one-sided as the score would suggest, although the Saints were always a degree superior to their opponents.
The City team took the field as selected and East Ham, who bring an improved team upon each successive visit, were also well represented.
During the match, the Assistant Hon.Sec.(Mr.W.J.Bates) made a collection for the benefit of C.Suitters(right), of the Reserves, who was injured at Welwyn in the Cup-ties with Hatfield, realising £2 2s.
