As the score would suggest, Hoddesdon’s first visit to Clarence Park to oppose the City was not a very successful one from their point of view. Before a good crowd, they started in promising fashion but when the City settled down the visitors had to play second fiddle for the remainder of the game.
The ground and weather were again ideal and the City forwards took full advantage of the opportunity to prove that they know how to score goals. A.Aylott, who is a member of both teams, decided to turn out in his old team and for the greater part of the game he carried his side on his shoulders, so to speak. When he resigned himself to the inevitable half-an-hour from the close, Hoddesdon cracked up lamentably. In one period of just over five minutes City scored four goals
The home team were forced to make two changes from the team selected, Evans, of the Reserves, appeared for Ansell in the half-back line and Hammond replacing Aylott. The popular young inside forward made a very successful re-appearance, scoring three characteristic goals. Palmer and Michell also played their first games of the season, the latter player scoring a magnificent goal.
