There being every reason to expect that the Spartan League championship will once more be between St Albans City and the 2nd Coldstreams, the meeting of the teams at Burton’s Court, Chelsea on Saturday was fraught with considerable interest. Two well-matched elevens lined up and an even game resulted, the only difference being that the Coldstreams scored three goals against the City’s two and thereby earned the two points. But for a fatal ten minutes during the second half, when the defence faltered and fell, the City, who had been the better team up to that point, would have won. They were leading by two goals to nil at half time. Although a draw would have been a most fitting result, credit must be given where credit is due. In other words, the Coldstreams must be congratulated upon the clever manner in which they seized their opportunity mid-way through the second half and not only retrieved their position after being two goals down but won the game. With one or two exceptions, the City played well all-round and took their beating from their friendly rivals in a very sportsmanlike manner. Michell and Clark were the pick of a fast line of forwards and three hard working half-backs were supported by two long kicking backs.
