To the great delight of well over a thousand spectators, St Albans City on Saturday passed into the second round of the Amateur Cup at the expense of Shepherd’s Bush. The conditions at Clarence Park were not conducive to good football. A bitterly cold and cutting wind blew across the ground, driving a continuous rain with it and the ground was in a very heavy condition when the teams turned out, although it has occasionally been worse. Considering the elements the spectators witnessed a particularly good game. Excitement reigned supreme all through and at the end City were deserved winners. Indeed had they won by three goals it would not exaggerate their superiority on the day’s play. Every man in the team played well and all are to be congratulated on a result which after all was only just, because had the Saints had a little luck the previous week the Bush would not have had a chance to replay.
