St Albans City continued to show splendid form on Saturday. Fresh from their Cup-Ties victories over Shepherd’s Bush and Tufnell Park, they went to Watford with light hearts and, giving a sparkling display, they overcame the Orient team on their own ground at Callow Land with great ease. The peculiar nature of the playing pitch, which takes a big dip at one corner, failed to put the Saints off their game and. as the Orient were unable to reproduce the form they showed at Clarence Park earlier in the season, there was “only one team in it”. But for much wild shooting, particularly by Michell, the City could have put up a very big score. This local “Derby”, looked upon by the home club as their match of the season, drew a good crowd of spectators, about 200 of whom came from St Albans and whose vocal achievements were no small feature of the match. From the kick-off the visitors were clearly masters of the situation and every member of the City eleven can fell satisfied that he did splendidly on a ground which was not ideal.
