St Albans City lost their first two matches of the season. In their third they gave an improved display and won but, on Saturday, they relapsed and played as poorly as before. The efforts of the forwards were feeble, the defence was shaky and the Club had an early dismissal from the English Cup Competition. Reflection upon the Cup-tie leads to the conclusion that a few changes in the City eleven are eminently desirable. There is surely a promising player or two in the locality worthy of a trial and the Club Committee would perhaps be better employed looking out for such individuals than introducing previously unheard of players from outside, who turn out failures. To lose 2-1 to a comparatively unknown team in Page Green Old Boys(1) was humiliating to the Saints, but the visitors were the better of the two sides and deserved to win.
