St Albans City opened their Spartan League programme on Saturday when Woodford Albion visited Clarence Park. The damp conditions which prevailed were all against good football and it was not surprising that the play never rose to a very high standard. Some good individual play was shown on either side, but apart from Woodford’s efforts in the first half, there was not much to be seen in the way of combination. The City were without their captain, E.F.Grimsdell, who was assisting Watford at Cardiff(1).
