St Albans seem fated never to turn out as selected. Once again there were several eleventh-hour changes in the City team. C.Fearn and C.C.Hepworth were unable to travel to Luton, the former having contracted a severe chill and the latter, owing to “exigencies of the service”. To make matters worse, W.F.Scully and J.Butcher did not arrive until the game had been in progress about ten minutes, so their places were filled by bringing in J.K.O’Brien(right) and P.G.Staines.
In spite of these misfortunes the City followed up their previous week’s victory over Barnet by administrating a three clear goals defeat to Luton Amateurs.
Less than ninety spectators, the majority of whom were City supporters, were present.

George Meagher, the City’s pre-war popular vice-captain, was welcomed back to Clarence Park on Saturday, having been an absentee “for duration”. He happened to be on his way back from the Rhine at the time of the railway strike and, like thousands of other, was held up in Boulogne. A football match was arranged to entertain those awaiting demobilisation and George was in one of the teams that played before a crowd numbering about 16,000.
On Saturday he proved that he has lost none of his old skill and cunning. He was a veritable tower of strength in the City team.
