“CITY PLAY DUCKS AND DRAKES WITH AYLESBURY” Those who visited the ground at Clarence Park on Saturday to witness the City’s Spartan League encounter with Aylesbury United cannot grumble at the fare served out to them. Aylesbury, who were second on the league table, very soon realised that they would have to go “all out” to justify their present prominent position and played their best, while the City, with their strengthened half-back line, gave a fine display of football and carries off the two points by winning 5 goals to 2. The high scoring gives some indication of the nature of the game – it was a game full of thrills ; not that goals were cheap ; not only were those scored fully earned but a larger number of goals might have been scored, especially on the City side, with a little more luck. Although the City might have scored further goals it was by no means a one-sided match. Each team made the best use of every opening that was offered and neither goalkeeper had any excuse for boredom.
