Luton Clarence had all their work cut out to beat St Albans City in the first round of the F.A.Amateur Cup competition proper at Dunstable. The City were also knocked out of the F.A.Cup by the Clarence at Dunstable after a drawn game at Clarence Park, but in a previous round of the Amateur Cup they were soundly beaten at home by Vauxhall Motors, only to be awarded the game on a protest. Their team on Saturday included H.Chipperfield, who started the season with the Clarence at half-back. The Clarence supporters had a shock when a free kick gave the City the opening goal about a quarter of an hour before the interval, but it proved just the tonic the black and whites wanted. Ansell quickly equalised and Plester came along with two fine goals. After change of ends Lovell increased the Clarence lead, but St Albans were by no means beaten and were only vanquished by the odd goal of seven.
