St Albans City’s progress into the third round of the Amateur Cup was easy. Barnet did not offer the stern challenge that was expected from them; indeed, they were fighting an uphill battle from the start and a battle from which they never appeared likely to emerge the victors. Unfortunately, neither side could turn out at full strength. Harold Figg was a spectator and Barnet were without L.R.Sutton and W.Drew. St Albans did not miss Figg greatly for George Odell played a masterful game and F.J.Holland did all that was required of him at right-half very efficiently. But Barnet did feel the absence of Sutton. He is the best of their half-backs and it was in the intermediate line that their greatest weakness developed. The attendance was not so large as was expected. The official returns show that 7,254 persons paid for admission, the gate receipts being £227 11s. 2d.
Pictures: 1. Cecil Cannon fails in a fine effort to reach a centre from W. Aldous, the Barnet outside-left. 2. Mid-field play 3. E.F. Goodwin, the Barnet goalkeeper, foiled in his endevour to reach the ball, following a well placed corner by P. Winter. The clearance was, however, effected. 4. Goodwin fails in a gallant endeavour to keep out the shot with which R. Bethell opened the scoring for St Albans.
