Tough-tackling midfielder who moved to Ryman Premier side Canvey Island in June 2002 from Conference outfit Dagenham & Redbridge. Had followed manager Garry Hill from Heybridge Swifts to St Albans towards the end of the 1997/98 season. Spent over four years at Heybridge having joined the Essex club from neighbouring Chelmsford City with whom he played for three seasons. A former England Schoolboy international, he made a handful of League appearances for Southend United ten years ago. Matt joined the Daggers and Garry Hill again from the Saints in the 1999 close season and played over 150 games for the club before moving to Canvey in June 2002. Returned to Chelmsford almost exactly a year later and then joined Billericay Town as player-coach in May 2004.
