Began his football career as an apprentice with Chelsea, and turned professional in 1985. He played eight times for the first team in all competitions before leaving for Northampton Town for a fee of £50,000 in January 1989.

Had loan spells at Barnet, Southend, Gillingham and Birmingham City before joining Peterborough United in 1996 making 86 appearances.

Joined the Saints during the latter stages of the 1998-99 season where he made 8 appearances.

Signed for Dagenham & Redbridge the following season.
